WHAT IS BEARD AND MOUSTACHE TRANSPLANTATION?
For men, beard and moustache can have importance for physical appearance and self-esteem as much as hair. Some men do not have desirable amount of beard or moustache. According to the statistics presented by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) in 2008, the number of beard and moustache transplantation operations increased at a rate of 110% in Turkey and its surrounding countries thanks to the raised consciousness of the individuals about hair transplantation.
If the patient is suffering from local beard loss, then transplantation operation is designed in such a way that the density of beard will be in harmony with the surrouding. If the beard is completely missing, around 1000-2000 hair follicles can be transplanted based on the abundancy and the beard border preferred by the patient. When transplantation will be performed on moustache area exclusively, transplantation of around 400-800 follicles would be sufficient. Normally, beard grow as single or double hair and in different direction in different areas of the face.
HOW IS BEARD AND MOUSTACHE TRANSPLANTATION DONE?
In FGS technique, hair follicles are transplanted as single and double and in their natural directions in different areas of the face. So, it would be difficult to find any differences between the natural beard and the transplanted beard. In FGS technique, follicles are extracted one by one with 0.7 mm punches without any surgical operation and these follicles are immediately transplanted into their new location again with 0.7 mm punches. Thus; the operation leaves no scars on the donor area or on transplantation area and as the hair follicles are not kept waiting for hours, they do not die. Hair follicles extracted from the back of the neck are transplanted into the moustache, beard and whiskers areas. This operation must be performed by a professional and experienced staff. The direction of the transplanted hair is significant for transplantations made on face. In beard, moustache and whiskers transplantation operations, the donor area and the transplantation area are washed 2 days after the operation.
DO YOU FEEL PAIN DURING BEARD AND MOUSTACHE TRANSPLANTATION OPERATION?
Beard, moustache and whiskers transplantations are performed under local anaesthesia and patients do not suffer from any pain or swelling. Beard, moustache and whiskers transplantations must be performed by a professional team carefully. You must be careful about your mimic gestures for one week following the operation.
HOW MANY DAYS AFTER THE OPERATION DO BEARD AND MOUSTACHE GROW?
Transplanted beard become visible following the washing and they look like a 2-3 day old beard. After 6 to 7 days, the pinkish look disappears. Patients do not have any scars on the skin (arms, legs, chest or back-neck) where the grafts are extracted from. Transplanted hair follicles can grow in time and men can cut the transplanted hairs when shaving. The hair growing at beard, moustache and whiskers areas should be cut with scissors up to 8-9 days after the operation, or they can be left to grow. For the follicles to get settled powerfully in their new locations, the first shaving should preferably be done on the 8th or 9th day of the operation.
